Completion requirements

Active Listening (Real-World Practice)

  1. Go to YouTube and search for a 3-minute TED-Ed video or a BBC News report.

  2. Get a piece of paper and divide it into two columns: "Marker Heard" and "Function."

  3. Listen to the audio. Every time you hear a marker (e.g., But, So, In addition, Finally), hit PAUSE.

  4. Write down the marker and what it is doing (e.g., However -> Contrast).

  5. The Challenge: Before hitting play again, guess what the speaker will say next.

    • Example: If you heard "For instance," guess what example they might give.
