1. Check response and breathing – Tap the person and shout. If no response and not breathing normally, call for help or emergency services.
2. Position – Lay the person on their back on a firm surface.
3. Hand placement – Place the heel of one hand on the center of the chest (lower half of the sternum), with the other hand on top.
4. Chest compressions – Push hard and fast:
Depth: about 5 cm (2 inches)
Rate: 100–120 compressions per minute
Allow full chest recoil after each push.
5. Rescue breaths (if trained) – After 30 compressions, give 2 breaths
Tilt the head back, lift the chin, pinch the nose, and blow until the chest rises.
6. Continue – Keep doing 30 compressions and 2 breaths until help arrives or the person starts breathing.
