First, check that the area is safe. Then, check if the person is responsive and breathing. If there is no response and the person is not breathing normally, call emergency services (e.g., 999) immediately.
Start chest compressions by placing one hand on top of the other in the center of the chest. Press down hard and fast—about 5 cm deep, at a rate of 100–120 compressions per minute.
After 30 compressions, give 2 rescue breaths by tilting the head back, lifting the chin, and blowing into the person’s mouth for about one second each. Continue the cycle of 30 compressions and 2 breaths until help arrives or the person starts breathing.
