Steps to Measure Resistance

  1. Turn off the power to the circuit or component.

    • Never measure resistance on a live circuit.

  2. Turn on the multimeter.

  3. Set the dial to the resistance (Ω) mode.

    • Some meters have ranges; choose the appropriate one.

    • Many digital meters auto-range automatically.

  4. Connect the probes:

    • Red probe to the VΩmA port.

    • Black probe to the COM port.

  5. Place the probes across the component or points where resistance is to be measured:

    • Polarity does not matter.

    • Ensure no parallel paths affect the reading.

  6. Read the resistance value on the display (in ohms, Ω).
