Turn off the power to the circuit or component.
Never measure resistance on a live circuit.
Turn on the multimeter.
Set the dial to the resistance (Ω) mode.
Some meters have ranges; choose the appropriate one.
Many digital meters auto-range automatically.
Connect the probes:
Red probe to the VΩmA port.
Black probe to the COM port.
Place the probes across the component or points where resistance is to be measured:
Polarity does not matter.
Ensure no parallel paths affect the reading.
Read the resistance value on the display (in ohms, Ω).
